3.5-Apollo Released

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Uniform Server 3.5-Apollo was just released today! Yay! Not a long wait right? Well, i hope not. This release is not a major release but it does feature updates, bug fixes and some patches around the server. Special BIG Thanks goes to Ric (aka) Mike Gleaves for helping out with the Beta and also patches/fixes.

This is the last step before 4.0 so version 4.0 is next. Go get it now!

The plugins are what i plan to start working on now… You can find everything in our SVN over at SourceForge. The installers are the major problem, so i guess i will have to start on that. The problem with me and the first go-round with the installers was i wanted too much features in it and wanted it to be extra cool… So don’t worry, this time i should be able to get what i want.

3.4-Sluger Released!

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Its been a year plus since the last release of the Uniform Server and while we are sorry about this, there was nothing we could do. It could have even been for the better, but its just that life does not turn out the way we have it planned or the way we have it worked out. After 3.3 was released, i moved out of my cousin’s house to my apartment and started college and a new job (which i ran my way up to manager within the year :)) and everything got tangled so the development of the server was not really seen by users, but it was just been worked on in the background.

Well, other things happened this year, but to give all the glory to the One above, i got time off (in a way) and had time to do some more work and fix my schedule and everything. Uniform Server 3.4-Sluger has come a long way and now it’s ready to be released to you and for you!

The server is packed with updated Apache 2.0, PHP 5, MySQL 5, ActivePerl 5, phpMyBackupPro 2, phpMyAdmin 2 and so on. Admin Panel 2 has also been updated and packed with some new and cool features. The main loading page is now http://localhost and no longer the http://localhost/apanel and you can find some changes to the server there also.

The server was actually set to be released June 1-4 with June 1 being the primary date, but we had to release it now because PHP 5.2.3 was released May 31, and we had to wait for the new build of eAccelerator to run with it. That just came out so everything is set now.

Well, enough talking, i think its time you go now and download the server! If you have any problems, start a topic in the forums.

[EDIT]
To talk about a few things on this release, a. please note that the way phpMyAdmin looks was not our doing, you can contact the phpMyAdmin team about that, b. the size increase cannot could not be avoided, so please don’t scream, If we could do something about it, we would but the size increase is mostly from the core products.

3.3 & mod_security

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Well just to give you an update on 3.3, its planned to come out on December 25, 2005 as a christmas gift. We could not figure out the problem with phpMyAdmin 2.7.0-pl1 on IE but we know that it works perfect on FireFox. On IE, you may have to reload the page/frame before the style is in use for some reason… don’t ask us, we asked and asked around and no one knows what the problem is also and it is not the Uniform Server because 2.6.4 works perfect.Since it works perfect on FireFox, the only problem i can see is IE. Stilling looking into it till the release date/hoping a new version comes out before then.

Introducing mod_security
To even improve on the already tight security in the Uniform Server, we are working on adding mod_security to the Uniform Server. Currently we are not sure on either we are going to add it to the package, or make it a plugin but we will let you know. Please know that when we say “adding to the package” we mean something like 3.4+ and not the upcoming 3.3 :) After the release of 3.3 we are going to start working on the installers of the other plugins we have developed (Tomcat, Resin …) while working on this.

We will keep you updated on whats happening.

3.3 Release Delay

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

Yes i know what you all are thinking, and i am also thinking the same thing too cause i really want to make this release and release it so we can move on to other things. Recently, today i was updating the packed softwares and i encountered an error in 2 places.

PHP 5.1.1: I was updating PHP as i usually do when i hit a major problem. The php.ini file was not pulling the extensions from /usr/local/php/extensions/ but it was pulling it from C:/php5/ for some reason, and that directory does not exist and neither has PHP been installed on this PC before. Another problem was also the fact that i later realized that it was pulling php.ini from C:\WINDOWS which has no file called php.ini in it. I later fixed the problem with a small tweak to the httpd.conf file.
By adding PHPIniDir “/usr/local/php/” my problem was solved for PHP. :D
phpMyAdmin 2.7.0-pl1: The second problem i’m facing is with phpMyAdmin. For some reason, there is a problem with the theme system cause its not pulling the css files right or something. You have to keep refreshing it like 3 times before it loads up right and after that it goes back to the plain dirty no css theme.

I am still working on fixing the phpMyAdmin problem, but i definately promise you that version 3.3 will be out in time for christmas. If i have to downgrade phpMyAdmin for the release i will :) I know everything works perfect on version 2.6.3+
